A closer game than the score would suggest

Briton Ferry welcomed Bryncethin to Ynysymaerdy Road for this league fixture. We were expecting a strong challenge from a team who were very unfortunate last season not to get promoted.

The visitors took an early lead with a try and conversion, catching the Ferry cold almost from the kick off. Fortunately the home team settled into their game and thwarted any further scoring chances from the visitors, and adding two penalty kicks to bring a well balanced first half to a close, Briton Ferry 6 Bryncethin 7.

The second half resumed in similar vain to the start of this game, and very quickly Bryncethin extended their lead with another converted try, once again following the early lapse in defense the Ferry limited the visitors scoring opportunities. Our visitors added two penalties and the Ferry responded with a penalty of their own, and in the closing time of play Bryncethin added a further converted try. Final score Briton Ferry 9 Bryncethin 27.

Despite defeat, once again the Ferry showed how far they have come from the disappointment of last season, a number of key players absent from the squad, and also a second team game played away to Maesteg Celtic. The future is certainly looking much brighter.
