Dissapointment in defeat, but not doom and gloom.

Following two previous wins the Ferry suffered an away defeat at Pontrhydyfen RFC, losing a tense affair in this the first of a number of  local derbies.

It was the home team who took advantage of the early exchanges and camped in the ferry half for long periods, but due to resilient defence it was not until the 25th minute that they opened the scoring  with a try from a loose kick which was converted. The Ferry did create chances, but their efforts went unrewarded, and it was from one of their attacking moves that the ball was intercepted and the home team extended their lead with another converted try after 32 minutes. The ferry were quick to respond and scored a well worked try on 35 minutes by Suni Minto converted by Michael Arnold. At half time It was Pontyrhydyfen 14 Briton Ferry 7.

The Ferry had their work cut out in the second half following the sending off of Chris Burgess just before half time, but their defence held strong on a number of occasions. Eventually the home team extended their lead with a further try, unconverted. Injuries struck again for the Ferry, and with replacements players taking time to settle in a further try was added by the home team. Unlike last season the Ferry did not give up hope and were rewarded for their persistence with a fine try from Taran Jones, converted by Michael Arnold. With one last chance before full time a scoring chance which could of earned a losing bonus point was lost and the game ended Pontrhydyfen 24 Briton Ferry 14.

Our next game will be away to Bryncoch RFC, another local derby, but on this occasion a Cup game.
